A Slim One

The fingers wrapped themselves around Lang’s legs.

No arms. No hands.

Only fingers.

Hundreds of fingers.

Lang beat at them until his palms were shredded from ancient fingernails. Blood splashed everywhere.

But he still had a chance. A slim one.

Giving up on fighting the fingers off, Lang dragged himself across the pavement to the culvert across the street, then tumbled down into the foot and a half of water at the bottom.

The fingers started to come loose and Lang cheered.

Then he heard it. 

A scrabbling noise at the top of the culvert.

The toes had found him…
