Friday Night Drabble Party!
"The PIanist's Fingers"
Oh, wow, I totally forgot it’s Friday the 13th.
Ah, but it’s all good, especially since I’m all about the spooky and scary anyway these days. Don’t worry, this evening’s drabble is appropriately weird.
And speaking of spooky, scary, and appropriately weird, did you hear that a new volume of my horror stories has dropped? It’s true!
Go get a copy of Under The Shroud: Ten NoSleep Stories, Volume Three! You’ll thank yourself, trust me.
With a new volume out, that means next week there’ll be a new story to look forward to in Always Free Fiction. Don’t know what that is? Well, shit, y’all gotta fix that. Catch up on all the free fiction here!
And I think that’s enough shilling for the evening. I hope you dig the drabble, dig Always Free Fiction, and go get yourself a copy of Under The Shroud: Ten NoSleep Stories, Volume Three! Oh, and please rate/review. Seriously. Just click some stars. That’s all you have to do. It really helps.
Now, on with the 100 words of weird!
Cheers!
The Pianist’s Fingers
By
Jake Bible
The pianist’s fingers are fine and sinewy; classically trained instruments sentenced to bang away at the stained, cracked ivories of the old and broken upright. He doesn’t even bother with the broken pedals anymore.
“Play the cowboys’ mamas song!” the warlord shouts from the front of the room.
The pianist nods and transitions from the Chopin piece he’d learned in a different life to the Willie Nelson song he knows the warlord wants.
“Yeah! That one!”
The pianist sighs. He’s played the song a thousand times just this week.
But a gig is a gig, especially in this wasteland apocalypse.
