The library was in some backwoods town that he was forced to stop in because he blew two tires on the highway.

Just killing time while he waited.

And he found a grimoire that magi had been hunting for for centuries.

Everlasting life…

That’s what the spell promised.

Donald tucked the leather-bound volume under his shirt, plastered a smile on his face, and walked out of the front door.

Or tried.

His body froze.

“Library books are for residents,” a voice from the front desk called.

“I’m only passing through,” Donald moaned.

“Not anymore,” the voice replied.

Donald sighed.
