Yo! What’s up, Friday Night Drabble Party People?
Who’s ready for some microfiction fun? YOU ARE!
But before we do that, let us bask in the glory that is me reading some short horror fiction at Story Parlor last weekend!
BASK!
Folks also got to hear Nathan Ballingrud read from his upcoming novella “Cathedral of the Drowned” which is AMAZING! You can pre-order here!
I could keep adding photos, but I’m lazy. Let’s just say there were some great readers and stories that night! Next time, y’all gotta come!
And, as always, I share my space with some other writers. Check out their books below!
And now for something completely Drabble!
Cheers!

Suddenly Very Awake
By
Jake Bible
Tiny footprints in the flour…
Carrie, about to rub the sleep out of her eyes, is suddenly very awake.
She stares down at the prints, shaking her head.
“DOUG! WE GOT MICE!”
There’s a reply from the bedroom, but Carrie can’t hear what her husband is saying.
She follows their dusty trail away from the spilled bag of flour, across the kitchen counter, and down onto the floor.
The prints become lighter and harder to see, but Carrie is on the hunt. No mouse is gonna…
She blinks at the creature cowering behind the trash can.
“DOUG! WE GOT PIXIES!”

I thoroughly enjoyed this as a reader and a Pixies fan :)
Also, a big fan of the minimalist technique in the ending of not wasting any words describing what the pixies looked like. The piece conjured a very distinct image for me from the context and the word alone. Nice werk!
“You are covered in brownies!” Name the film.
