The weather turned for the worse and Harley shivered.

The heater had died a week earlier and she’d managed to scavenge a few pieces of dry firewood.

But that was no good against the subzero front coming in.

She looked about her small cabin. Studied the few personal possessions she had scrambled to grab on her way out the door.

Harley turned to the window and the valley that lay far, far below.

How could it be so cold when everything down there burned?

The wind whipped at her door and she shivered again.

The apocalypse was cold as Hell.
