Friday Night Drabble Party!
"What They Want"
Howdy!
Man, this weather has been something. I don’t know where y’all are at, but the WNC mountains have been a mess for a couple of weeks. We’ve gotten some breaks here and there, but otherwise it’s just been trash. Although we did finally get a nice big snow, so that was cool.
How’s the weather in your neck of the woods?
Speaking of the weather, we had to postpone our author event due to the ice storm that didn’t really hit us. It is now on for February 21st!
If you are in the area, come on by and check out all the cool authors! Readings, Q&A, and books for sale. It’ll be a blast!
Oh, and since we are on the subject of books for sale, don’t forget that if you can’t wait for the next episode of Always Free Fiction, you can get the entire story, and so many more, in the latest collection!
Rate and review, if you would be so kind!
A new collection will be dropping soon, so stay tuned.
Now, on with tonight’s drabble.
Enjoy!
What They Want
By

The cries come from the darkness; always the darkness.
I study the tree line, hunting for the source as I usually do around this time of night.
The cherry of my cigarette glows brightly, ruining my night vision, but that’s alright. I know I won’t see them or it or whatever.
Oh, but I hear them.
“So easy…”
“One step, Noel…”
“That’s all…”
“Just one step…”
“Come to us, Noel…”
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve thought about walking down my porch steps.
But that’s what they want.
So I sit and smoke and listen to the cries from the darkness.
Hey, there. You. Yeah, you. Subscribe.
Whoa, whoa whoa! Where do you think you’re going?
