The Dullness
By
Jake Bible
“Beheading.”
The Extreme Minister of Punishment blanched.
“Without the prerequisite torture, Your Highness? Torture is our brand. I mean, your brand, after all.”
“Too expensive,” the Queen stated. “Our rivals no longer torture and are saving a fortune.”
“But straight to beheading seems so…humane.”
“How dare you!” the Queen roared.
“My apologies, Your Highness,” the Minister said and prostrated himself before the Queen. “Forgive me.”
“Forgiven,” the Queen said with a dismissive wave. She sighed. “Perhaps the blades can be dull. Torture and beheading in one stroke. Or several strokes due to the dullness.”
“Brilliant, Your Highness.”
“I know.”
